Stilbite and Celadonite on Basalt Matrix

Maharashtra, India
$68AED 323
One specimen — when it's gone, it's gone.

This specimen captures one of the Deccan Traps' most photogenic mineral successions in a single hand piece. Salmon-peach stilbite blades — a calcium-rich zeolite — grew in overlapping fans within a basalt vesicle before a later hydrothermal pulse deposited green celadonite, a potassium-iron phyllosilicate, as a thick earthy cap across the top. The contrasting warm and cool tones arise from fundamentally different mineral chemistries precipitating from the same cooling volcanic fluid over millions of years. Specimens like this are recovered by the Shaikh family and their network of artisanal collectors working the ancient lava flows of Maharashtra's Western Ghats, where sequential zeolite mineralization produces some of the world's most naturally colorful matrix pieces.
